Reenacting the Future

Video Installation, 2020, 03m04s in loop

This video installation, created with her mother in Iran, explores the reenactment of an unknown future. Filmed separately in Iran and the U.S., the videos were later edited and projected together, creating the illusion of mother and daughter meeting and interacting after 12 years. Using the five senses as a framework, the work examines connection across distance, with cedar-shaped screens symbolizing strength, time, and their bond.

The platform screens are also in the shape of two Cedar trees representing the mother and daughter, sternum, and gates that are metaphors of long life, strength, future time, and the present.
